Nielsen, a specialist in marketing and media, recently published the 2018 radio report on the scores of the different formats. The study covers the period January-November 2018 (December is not included because of the Christmas music that changes the situation).
It is, therefore, the News/Talk format that is the most prominent (10% of the audience compared to 9.9% in 2017), political news but also natural disasters, the debates around social networks having led many listeners to this type of programme.
In second place is the Adult Contemporary format (mainstream programming based on melody, voices, harmony and acoustic instruments, Celine Dion is the symbol) with 8% of the audience (7.7% in 2017). The country format completes the podium.
Next comes the Pop CHR (Pop Contemporary Hit Radio) format based on current successes (Top 40), which attracted 6.9% of the audience. The Classic Hits format (titles from the 70s and 80s) draws 5.6% (5.3% in 2017) of the audience and Hot AC (pop, pop rock and indie rock) 5.5%.
